Summer Trip 2015 – Part 1 – Vienna

Grobi did pick me up from the airport and we did stop at the HQ. Changed the Dublin bag for the road trip camping bag and booked a last-minute 2 week vacation in Majorca for the fall mini trip. Then it was out of the door and we went for some beer. The next day we had to do a few stops to get some more gear and supplies and then we actually hit the road. Since we started quite late we made it only somewhere close to Munich. Did find a strange camp ground with a very nice owner. Most of the guys had their campers converted into – never move again little homes. With fences, outdoor showers and what not. Like little homes – only way to many in not a lot of space homes. We call them Dauercamper – something like permanent camper – if that makes sense to you? There was only one spot left – that was the one for us.
They had a pizza place and cold beer so we did not cook that evening. The next morning it was off towards Vienna. But 1st things 1st. A gas stop before we hit the road.

The nicest gas stops are the ones where you meet some other guys with historic cars. Some petrol talk and a fresh cold brew and on the read again.

Not really sure what he was doing but he got the water from the fountain! Than he drove on the wrong side of the street while looking for something in the far distance. You have to be 100% on the small streets of Austria!

Morning at the camp ground close to Vienna – hmmm we should have closed the roof! They had a super dry summer too so the leaves did come down super early this year.

This building is where they burn trash in Vienna. The artist Friedensreich Hundertwasse did design the outside. It does produce heat for 60000 homes in Vienna. On top of that it does produce about 40000 Mwh to power loads of iPhone chargers and in 2009 also more than 26500 tonnes of CO2 :-(

Really a dry summer here in Europe this year!

We did park the car somewhere and started our walk at this nice church

The Stephansdom – the biggest church in Vienna. It stands on the ruins of two other churches – and some parts are still from the old ones. For example the giant door – it is from the burned firth church dating back to 1137. The Second church is build in a Romanesque style in 1263 than followed the Gothic Choir in 1340 and some additions in 1359 that made the whole church wider so they did break the second one which was way to small now. You will find a lot of information on the ever so informative Wikipedia page for the St. Stephens Cathedral in Vienna

This bank was founded in 1819. Now the small people could bring some money and leave it here. They got a bit of interest and everybody was happy. And as a symbol for frugality and hard work they did choose the bee and put it on top of the new building.

Coffee break – looook this was only 5,50€ and you see the size of it???? That is about one or two sips and the coffee is gone.
