Good Bye Lonji

After 3 nights it was time to move on down from this nice place. Delphine went down into the valley and i crossed over to the other valley. Great – nobody and nothing. You hear only some birds, the tranquil sound of water and you own footsteps!

Than the dream was over – i reached the other valley and the village there. No more smiling chinese tourists and locals. A kind of shopping center for trash in the mountains. I even saw the stupid wood frog that they sell in Bangkok!
Went down to the bus stop and entered a tourist bus. They took me for 40 all the way to the train station in guilin with only one stop.
The bus stopped at a Yao village for a stupid show. Only 2 of the westerners went in the rest stayed outside. There was a little shop on the other side and they sold the coldest beer in china – great after that long hike!!!

The owner is 83 and did show me his pictures and than a friend of his showed so we had some communication with hand and feet. Than this woman was very interested in conversation too – to bad i was without a chinese translator…

Than a boy wanted to show me his home – that is where he, his parents and grandmother live.

Quite an empty place…. There is only one small sleeping room with a closet in the back.

2nd Day in Longji

The next day Hermes hiked up from his place for breakfast. He and Michelle left for Guilin again.

Delphine came late in the afternoon from Xing Ping. There was a little confusion as she had the LP Guide and the whole valley is not in the book only another one next to it. But she made it.
I waited 1st at “Music from Paradiese”, had a beer and a chat with this nice fellow about my camera.

Longji Terraces Scenic Area

Today Michelle and I went to the Longji Terraces Scenic Area
The construction begun in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) by the Zhuang and Yao people. Till today they work every day in their fields on the mountains. If you been to Banaue in the Philippines you know what it looks like. Michelle did a fantastic job with organizing the trip. But we could not find the bus at the train station so we went to the bus station for a quick breakfast. the bus driver called her and told us that he would pick us at at the station – how nice!
The last few kilometer the whole trip starts to make a lot of fun. Up a winding road next to a stream with bamboo forest all over. Very surreal as bamboo does not grow straight like normal trees. It bends in every direction so the hills look unreal. It is not really good to see in the pictures.

Later at the bottom of the hills a woman did wait to show us a good place for lunch. Than we started the hike up to our hotel. We walked to “High Ladder to the Heaven” 1st and than on to “Music from Paradise”. In the middle it started to rain very hard. There was a shelter – that is where I meet Hermes from Mexico. Blown away by the landscape he decided to stay a night in the mountains. After 15 minutes the rain stopped and the sun came out. White clouds from the valley drifting up the sky, a rainbow, patches of blue sky – i felt like in heaven! And all the people where so friendly. 99% chinese tourists greeting, smiling – everybody was happy. The locals all very nice too – what a place to be!!!
