The Chandelier Tree of Silver Lake, Los Angeles

The other night Irenie took me to her friend Adam Tenenbaum and his Chandelier tree in the front yard. Well, not your usual tree I have to say. Adam got me a cold beer and flipped the power switch. Wow – that is quite something!

A few years ago Adam came home from a set-building job with three spare chandeliers. They were too big for his house but they would look perfect hung in his tree and they had to be lit.

Now he has more than 30 chandeliers hanging in the tree. All wired up and looking magical against the night sky. The quiet neighborhood in Silver Lake – at last in his street – does the rest to the fairy tale feeling that sneaks up after a few seconds under the tree. While Irenie and Adam talked I snapped a few pictures of the Chandelier Tree of Silver Lake:

Going to LA?

Check out The Chandelier Tree of Silver Lake next time you’re in Los Angeles at 2811 W. Silver Lake Drive! There is plenty of parking so do not worry. The best time is just before the sun goes behind the mountain and the blue hour starts. From there towards the black sky, the lit tree looks the best. And if you want to help maintain it, drop a quarter or a few into the parking meter in front of the tree – the electric bill is a bitch!

Filmmaker Colin Kennedy passed the tree almost daily for nearly six years and finally decided to shoot a short video:
