From the train station in Lódź it was a 15 minutes walk to the hotel. I did a small detour because I could walk most of the way in a nice park. Check in was smooth at the Boutique Hostel. The room was 14€ a night – it was clean and good!

Ulica Piotrkowska or Piotrkowska Street in Lódź

The central axis of Łódź was revitalized from 1990 on. Part of it is now a pedestrian only street with a lot of beer gardens and restaurants. You still find many shops there as well. And lots of the nice old houses. I took a few pictures for you:

If you go in one of the side streets from Piotrkowska Street you find a lot of buildings like this one. A sleeping beauty waiting to be kissed from an investor prince.

Square next to Piotrkowska Street
A sad square next to the street. Only parking and trash. Looks like there was a club on the right before.

Can you imagine how it will look in winter?

Polish Craft Beer
Got some food and did stop at one of the small super markets. Those 5 bottles where less than 5€ and one was better than the other. The last one on the right was my dolce. It is brewed with honey.

Łódź
Wonderful sky on the way to get some breakfast. After that is was time to walk to the bus station

Polski BusI love it: Polski Bus – great!

Polish Bathroom
The bus did stop in a bigger place and we had 15 minutes. There was a big shopping center so I went to use the bathroom there. I did see a lot of bathrooms in my time but never something like that!

Summer Trip 2016 Part 1 – Poland

October 10, 2016 at 20:51

A few days after I got back from Amsterdam it was time again to hit the road again. Decided on a “3 Stop Tour” Poland – Berlin and Dutchland again. Visit friends and see some of Europe. The trip did start at the Bus Station at Stuttgart Airport. There was too much traffic so I came late and had the last seat in the rear of the bus. This way I can use the window to lean on. That was the only good thing in that bus. Not a lot of leg space and no WiFi 🙁
The ticket was also quite expensive for a bus. 72€ for an overnight trip. They had 2 girls working in the bus – selling ticket and serving coffee. TWO GIRLS??? Wow – at the other buses one of the two bus drivers is doing that. And I have no clue what took them so long. They where going back and forth for hours.

View from my seat. Thanks to my Doc I had good sleeping pills and did make it all the way to Sieradz. Had only to wait for a few minutes and Michal did pick me up.

Home Sweet Home
He had to work so I could rest a bit. In the afternoon it was time to go to Warszawa

At the Hair Dresser
Short stop at the hair dresser – visiting the girlfriend does require that – I guess?

Chopin Piano Concerts in Royal Łazienki Park

Free concert in the summer every Sunday at the park. There are two recitals of Chopin’s music at noon and 4 p.m. from May to September. Not my cup of tea but worth to see if you are close.

Palace Of Science and Culture

The Palace of Culture and Science (Pałac Kultury i Nauki) is the seat of different companies, cinemas, theatres, libraries, sports clubs, universities, scientific institutions and authorities of the Polish Academy of Sciences. It completed in 1955. It is still the tallest building in Poland, the eighth tallest building in the European Union and in a Top-20 of Europe with 237 metres.
Originally it was called Joseph Stalin Palace of Culture and Science but somehow at the big “De-Stalinization” everything with his name on got erased.
The building was a gift from the Soviet Union to the people of Poland and they did bring all the workers to build it as well.

Warsaw Downtown
With the construction of skyscrapers right next to the Palace Of Science and Culture it did lost a bit of the dissonance with the smaller buildings close to it. Now the new buildings destroyed the aesthetic balance of the old city even more than the big old “Palace”

City Beach
The City Beach in Warszawa. Great spot to hang out and see the sun go down. Lots of people do their bbq or just have a beer. There are a lot of guys selling beer as well. Later we went to a free open air concert a few minutes from here. Nice!

A few Days in Poland – Part 2 of Wrocław

January 28, 2016 at 08:31

Poland 2015
If you did not see the view from the tower Wrocław Cathedral take a look at the last blog post. The full name is Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Wrocław. The first church was built in the mid 10th century at this place and later replaced by a larger basilican structure. That one was destroyed many times in many wars – lets hope this one will last a long time.

Only a minute away from the Cathedral is the Collegiate Church of the Holy Cross and St. Bartholomew. It was completed in autumn of the year 1287.

Wroclaw 2015
And changing into the big one at the eurobus station close to Opole. I wonder what people do when it rains. There is no roof and only one small toilet building. Looks like you have to stand with your bags in the rain for a while.
