Off to Lalung in Spiti Valley
The other bridge was gone, so we had to detour and took the only one for miles over the river.
Lalung – our stop for this night. The family where we stayed had 8 fields before. The river took 6 and a half the other night so now they are in a bit of trouble.
The friendly monk did open up Lalung Gompa for us. Lalung or Lhalun means something like ‘land of the gods’. This one is quite different from the others we did see so far – exquisite clay figures and the Lama told as. “All this is not mad by man”. And over 1000 years old. Guess it was not destroyed cause the Gompa is so far away from everything. Only the kingdom Ladakh and Gunge did fight over Spiti. Thanks to the Indian Union which Spiti is a part of, you find here one of the last few unspoiled Tibetan Buddhism cultures left on the planet.
Isn’t this the most amazing temple ….
I love this place ….
From the inside it is – no question! Only the outside is not really nice.
