Hanoi – Bangkok – Udon Thani – Kut Chap

November 19, 2017 at 20:13

The last few days in Asia for this trip. Hanoi International or Noi Bai Airport as they call it here. I have a VietJet flight to Bangkok. And a bus ticket a few days later to Kut Chap to see Nong and the girls.

Breakfast in Udon. Had to wait for Nong to pick me up and give me a lift to Kut Chap

Good to be back but it was bloody hot there. Nong arranged a room at her neighbors place. They build a small house to rent apartments. Mine was not really finished but the bathroom worked and there was WiFi – what more do you need??

The fish market
The fish market part of the market. The market is behind the bar and there is a public toilet. Way more space to take a leak. I never tried the toilet in the small restaurant.

Breakfast
Breakfast – Nong cooked for me in the morning – great when you wake up and find some fresh food on your doorstep! Thank you Nong!!

A few Days in Kut Chap and then back to Bangkok

February 11, 2016 at 09:50

After a long long day at Mo Chit Bus Station in Bangkok my night bus finally took me to the east. Next stop Udon Thani where Nong will pick me up to drive me to Kut Chap to meet her and her friends again.

My hotel room in Kut Chap – still 300 Bath and still with the nice bed sheets

Bottle feed a fish
It was weekend and Nong took her daughter and me to a melon farm. Yes – Thai people will visit a melon farm! Than they take pictures in the greenhouse and eat some melon ice or have a melon shake. We had a shake that was more sugar than melon and was not really good. Than I saw this: Bottle feed a fish for 20 Bath a pop! Seriously – that is the next big biz for small biz owners! They even have it here in Pai 🙁

Kut Chap
Nong’s friend’s Gram and Patcharin, she does the BBQ next to the bar. People are quite small in Kut Chap!! You will find more proof on my facebook!

Kut Chap
Thai night out in front of the motorbike repair shop. Noodle place next door with good food. Enough ice, soda and water. It is warm and things happen on the street. Great evening Thai style. Later we went for food at the outskirts of town.

The food place outside of Kut Chap
The owner of the place is a friend of Nong. In Kut Chap everything does close really early. Next to this restaurant is a karaoke bar so it does stay open long. The food is super good and the owner super friendly. The neighbour came back from farm work and did stop for a bite as well.

Kut Chap
The next evening at the motorbike repair shop in Kut Chap again. Loads of fruits for dessert.

Kut Chap
Later at the porch of Nong’s neighbour. The friendly dog did really like me 🙂

A few days Kut Chap and than off to Bangkok

After Nong picked me up at the bus station in Udon Thani we went for some vegetarian food and then to her village. Since that is not a place where tourists go the guesthouse situation is not really good. One “homestay” far away from everything did start at 600 bath. A bit over my budget. So we drove to another place – first the guy did ask 200 for a room. Great! Than he saw me getting my bag out of the car. Wait wait – it is 300! He thought we only want the room for an hour or so. Ha ha!! A nice place on the outskirt of the village. Quite and green. Big room with table, chair, bathroom, toilet and a nice big bed with a really (to) hard mattress.

Nice Room

Nice Room
What a lovely room 🙂

I dumped my stuff and we went to Nongs place and visited the neighbors. She called Ten over and we started to sip some Whiskey. Than we went to the Temple Festival (see other blog post) and after that we went to a restaurant to meet another friend of Nong.

Food
Since she knows everybody – that place was run by a friend of her as well. Good food and even better company!

Coffee
Next morning Ten took me to his favorite coffee shop. Coffee with the bears.

Tens Place
Spend the day in Tens office – nice!

Tens Place
In the evening he even opened a bottle of wine in his back yard.

Food again
Than it was off to dinner. Sure enough the restaurant owner was a friend of Nong as well.

Food again
Happy Times 🙂

More Food
I got my pot with loads of vegetables. I love that kind of places. You know the owner, they bring and bring and bring food, ice and Soda. You can bring your own bottle and no question asked. Everybody knows everybody and it is super relaxed.

Food again
My last night – Nongs friend drove me to the bus station. We did stop for food of course!

My room in BKK
Did arrive at 5 in the morning at Mo Chit station. That is too early for everything. Went to the local bus stop and took number 3 into the city. Since it was so early there was nobody collecting money. 3,5 bath saved! Great start in the day. Did some waiting in front of the hotel and ring ring the bell at 7 in the morning. They got a free room! Win – again. And some more sleep!

My room in BKK
350 bath with private bathroom and a/c. I can not complain about that one!

Elena & Mitsos
The guys did arrive one day before me. So in the evening we had some food and beer together. Elena & Mitsos
