Église Sainte-Marie in Church Point

Église Sainte-Marie
Église Sainte-Marie

Church Point is home to the Église Sainte-Marie, a Catholic place of worship. It is both one of the largest and tallest buildings made of wood in all of North America. The length of the church nave is 58 meters, which is 190 feet, and the width of the transepts is 41 meters, which is 135 feet. The church was constructed in the shape of a cross. From the ground to the top of the steeple, the church spire is 56 meters (184 feet) tall. The cross atop the steeple adds another 1.67 meters (5 feet 6 inches). The church steeple was originally 4.6 meters (15 feet) taller; however, in 1914, it was hit by lightning, which necessitated the rebuilding of a portion of the spire.

Église Sainte-Marie
The design of the church was influenced by the architecture of the famous châteaux of the Loire Valley and by the design of the church in Father Dagnaud’s hometown of Bains-sur-Oust, France. The central steeple is flanked by a pair of turrets, with four more turrets surrounding the spire.

The steeple holds three bronze bells imported from France, the largest weighing almost 800 kilograms

Rickers Lake
An old lady pulled up and went for a swim. Good idea—instead of an ice-cold stream, I took a bath in a cold lake today.

I was standing there for quite some time to watch the sunset when a car came by. Thanks for helping me make the picture more interesting. A little while after, I started to move again. Time to find a place for tonight!
