Summer Trip 2015 – Part 9 – Pécs
The weather situation did not really improve so we decided to drive towards home again. Looking at the forecast Pécs was interesting and only a short detour from where we have to go.
Small town Hungary – or rather small village somewhere in Hungary
Sopianæ was the earliest Roman name for Pécs. It was founded by Romans at the beginning of the 2nd century. Now it is the 5th largest city in Hungary. In 1367 the first university in Hungary was founded here by Louis I the Great. Pécs has a rich heritage from a 150-year-long Ottoman occupation and was always a multicultural city.
The city hall at Széchenyi square – the main square of the city
Top of the statue of Trinity. In the back you see the roof of the Mosque of pasha Qasim the Victorious.
The stature of János Hunyadi
Downtown you find houses from the Middle Ages, Baroque, Classicism, Rococo, Art Nouveau and a few ugly new ones.
The campground – super small and only 4 other campers here.
