From Phong Nha to Phố Châu

October 26, 2017 at 09:58

Another one of those Gray days. You can not see where the sun is the whole day because the Gray soup is so thick. And it looks as it would start to rain every second. Had my breakfast at the Mountain View Hotel. Since I do not like to eat eggs I had my Baguette with Tomatoes instead. That did confuse the boss woman for a few days but now she is used to it. And since I stayed here a few times she gives me an extra Vietnamese slow drip coffee every morning as well. Nice!
“Pack the Bag” game and everything on the bike. Drove down to the Lemon Tree Spa to say Adios to Trang.

From Khe Sanh to Phong Nha

October 25, 2017 at 12:50

Once again I drove from Khe Sanh to Phong Nha on this trip. I was lucky – no rain and mild weather. Checked in at the Mountain View Hotel again. Left my stuff and visited Trang at the Lemon Tree Spa. There I spend most of my time in the afternoon and evening.

A Vietnamese Wedding

Traditional Vietnamese wedding procession
Traditional Vietnamese wedding procession. As you can see they bring 5 gifts – the big red packages. You can bring only uneven numbers of presents 3, 5 or 7 for example.

Wedding Day
On the wedding day, the procession of the groom's family is led in a traditional order. First the representative of the groom's house followed by the groom's father, the groom, then the rest of his family and close friends. They bring gifts to the bride’s house and get the final approval for the wedding.

Quick visit at Ocean View Homestay

Trang had to look after her business down at the ocean. I drove her down since her bike did not work. A quick visit at the ocean and a few cuddles with Gummy 🙂 The next morning we drove back into the mountains again.

Mountain View Hotel in Phong Nha

My room at the Mountain View Hotel in Phong Nha was 8 US $ a night. It comes with 2 beds, Air-con, fan, TV, WiFi and a private bath room with hot shower. In the morning you get breakfast which is also included in the 8 US $. They have balconies toward the front and back of the hotel. Try to get the room on the top floor – the view is better.
Motorbike parking is in front of the hotel under a roof – so it is dry when it rains.

On the Ho Chi Minh Road from Phong Nha to Phố Châu

August 10, 2017 at 20:37

A Gray morning after a good nights sleep at the Mountain View Hotel in Phong Nha. Today I wanted to drive further up North to Phố Châu.
Switched on the boiler and flipped open the MacBook. Catching up with the world events and emails from last night. After a few emails the water was hot and I took my shower.
Went down to the restaurant for breakfast later. They serve tea or coffee and the usual Baguette with egg and a few Bananas for desert. I opted for coffee as usually – the slow drip Vietnamese coffee. But ordered tomatoes instead of egg. That was new for the owner. So she came with 2 tomatoes and showed them to me. “Tomatoes?” Yes! Ha ha – you should see the lock she gave me 🙂
After I put my stuff on the bike and settled the bill I was off toward the Ho Chi Minh Road.

Looking back at Phong Nha
Crossing the bridge towards the QL15 I stopped for a look back at Phong Nha.

Finally open road toward the mountains
Finally open road toward the mountains. It looks like last year – Gray and limited visibility. And sure enough a few minutes later it started to rain again. Stopped in a small market town and got a rain poncho. Of course it was way to small but I was dry all the way down to the knees! And shielded from the cold as well.
Did not take a lot of pictures since it rained for most of the day. BUT I have some for you in the post from last year: https://hastenteufel.name/blog/from-phong-nha-to-tinh-ha-tinh/.

Went to the same hotel as last year. The Ly Ha Hotel in Phố Châu. Only this time I got the room in the second floor. My old room was occupied by Ashley from Canada.

Affter setteling in I went down to do some shopping and the manager was sitting there. I said “Hello” and “I remember you from last year”. Took him a few seconds to remember but in no time I was sitting next to him with some fresh tea.
Later he went with Ashley and me to a local coffee shop for some refreshment.
After that Ashley went for dinner and he took me to a temple that had some celebration going on. I did not really understand what was going on but there where many people and since I was the only foreigner you can imagine the whole thing.
