It did start to rain when we drove out of Budapest and we did fight with the water. Than it did turn into a waterfall and we even had to close the roof of the car. Not a good day on the road at all!
Somewhere in the middle of nowhere
At last the roof is new!!
Small-town Hungary – somewhere in the other middle of nowhere
To our next camp ground in Szeged. Grobi did want to see the original train station from the movie “Ich denke oft an Piroschka” and that was in Hódmezővásárhelykutasipuszta – I know they do have very strange names for little villages in Hungary! Since 2012 the name is Székkutas – which is a bit more easy if you have to put it in a navigation system! Or spell it in school!!
To find that train station was not so easy. According to my navigation which usually is really really good even in very remote parts of nowhere – this is the street to the train station. Hmmmmmmm??? After a few hundred meter we did find the Székkutas train station – only it did look very different from the one in the movie. So somebody did send us to another one.
Well that was of course BS! So after a while we did find this station. Only it did look quite different from the one from the movie as well??? The guy that we found there could not speak English so when Grobi mentioned Piroschka Piroschka he pointed us somewhere. So we did start to drive somewhere for a few km – only to find out that this does not make sense at all. So I had the idea to go back to the town center and look for the town hall. Chances are you find somebody that speaks English – or German? And so we did. We found a few guys that are really into old cars there and we had a long conversation – Grobi talked German I did try English and German and my hands and they talked in Hungarian – most likely a dialect. Why not. Grobi did his Piroschka Piroschka thing and after a while a guy came and took him somewhere. So I had to continue that conversation about old cars and motorbikes. Than Grobi was back and he knew where to go.
Turned out that the guys did parts of the movie where you see only tracks at the real train station or they did put a few tracks somewhere else. But the house of the family – in the movie a few steps away from the station is this one. The guy next door came and showed us his house under construction. Again no English so it could be the new visitor center or a museum for the film or the place where the film crew did stay while filming??? We will never know!!!
