Fall Weekend at Lake Constance

Was not really motivated to start working so why not visit Anja at Lake Constance or Bodensee as we call it here in Germany. She moved to Konstanz a few years ago. Konstanz has a border with Switzerland so you have loads of Swiss coming over at the weekend and do their shopping, drinking and dining for cheap. Since the Swiss Frank rose again last year it got even cheaper for them. Thus Konstanz is full of nice little shops, cafe’s and restaurants. Everything is renovated and clean – and a bit more expensive since the Swiss do not look really how much a Beer or Coffee is over here.

Took flixbus to Konstanz. Still the cheapest and the city bus stop is right in the center. Only 5 minutes walk away from Anja’s place. Great! This is the Schnetztor, part of the former city wall. Civilization in Konstanz dates back to the late Stone Age. Later the Celts settled here. Around 40 AD, the first Romans drove them out and build a roman town here. It’s history is rich and worth to look up if you ever decide to come here. Another little piece of information: Because it almost lies within Switzerland Konstanz was not bombed during World War II. The city left all its lights on at night so from the air it looked like it is actually Switzerland. Clever eh?

Since Anja was super busy I took the little on to the vet.

The next day with blue sky – perfect for a long dog walk along the river. We did cross into Switzerland and passed lots of fields before we made it to the water.

There are some small villages on the Swiss side of the river. Not a lot on the other side.

Had coffee in Gottlieben. Finally a Selfie in the toilet – never had one!

Fancy place build into an old house. And a nice way to display your wine to the customers. If only it would be on the other side of the river – Small coffee – 5€ – örgs!

Since April 2007 the border line between Germany and Switzerland is no longer marked by a fence but by a sculpture border. At last for a few hundred meters from the lake into town. Johannes Dörflinger designed a work of art comprising 22 individual sculptures. The objects represent the trumps of the tarot, the “Great Arkana”. Hmmm why not but why??
